The Oral Surgery Office (OSO) was founded in 1950, making it the longest tenured practice of its kind in the Greater Lafayette area. Since that time, our philosophy has never changed.
The patient experience drives everything.
We realize you would rather not need our services. And we never lose sight of the fact that the results-not the process-are why you’re coming to us.
That’s why, like the thousands of other patients who have placed their trust in OSO over the years, you can expect the most comfortable, safe and technologically advanced services available to ensure the most efficient and pleasant experience possible.

In addition to graduating from the highly respected Indiana University School of Dentistry, OSO’s Dr. Coates and Dr. DeWitt have each completed a rigorous oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. These programs consist of 4-6 years of hospital based surgical and medical training in disciplines such as general surgery, head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, internal medicine, anesthesiology, pathology, and, of course, oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Both Dr. Coates and Dr. DeWitt are certified as Diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) for successfully completing both a written exam and a rigorous oral examination after residency. This board certification demonstrates their commitment to deliver the highest level of care to their patients.
E/R Trauma Experts
Highly recognized among their colleagues in the medical field, Dr. Coates and Dr. DeWitt maintain full privileges at Franciscan Alliance Hospitals, and are on call with the emergency departments for the treatment of maxillofacial trauma and infections.
